To provide confidence, education, skills, and knowledge to all nursing staff caring for paediatric patients across Victoria.

 

Deteriorating Patient

Anatomical differences between adults and paediatrics, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Neurological, Nursing assessment, Head to toe, ABCDE, Blood gas interpretation, Management and stabilisation of the patient, BLS/ALS, Emergency response systems, Victor, MET, PETS.

 

Care of a Paediatric Patient

Medication differences, thermoregulation and effects on new borns, Fluid management in the management of paediatric patients, Family centred care, ethics.

 

Pain & Sedation Management

Effective pain management protocol used in paediatrics, Effects of sedation and pain medication have on brain development, Procedural pain relief, Sucrose, Nitrous oxide, Low dose midazolam, Angel cream, buzz/distraction techniques.

Services

Ongoing professional learning for staff caring for paediatric patients

Support Will provide ongoing support when and if needed. Will provide resources to help consolidate and facilitate learning.

Consultation The service will provide confidence, education, skills, and knowledge to all nursing staff caring for paediatric patients across Victoria. PAEDS aim is to focus on educational session that are more accessible to all nursing staff across Victoria. Sessions will aim to cover a cross section of skills and knowledge. Covering the learning needs required to care for multiple different patient demographics.

Who are we

Sarah, Meagan and Grace are experienced professionals holding Advanced nursing roles for many years. They hold Post Graduate degrees in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care. They also teach as a Paediatric Life Support lecturer with the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN).
